Visual Semiotics
Visual semiotics examines how meaning is created and communicated through images and visual design. It focuses on how elements such as color, composition, form, texture, and spatial relationships function as systems of signs that guide interpretation. Rather than simply depicting reality, visuals operate through symbolism, contrast, and culturally learned conventions, allowing viewers to derive meaning from how elements are arranged and presented. This approach reveals how images can convey complex ideas, evoke emotion, and shape perception, while reflecting the values, assumptions, and contexts in which they are produced and understood.
